City working to resolve electricity disruption in Montague Gardens
04 May 2024
An electrical subcontractor is currently on site working to restore electricity to the area. This follows the outcome of an investigation which determined that the contractor linked to the Montague bulk sewer upgrade damaged the electricity cables.
The City apologises for the electricity disruption being experienced by residents and businesses, currently affected by construction of the bulk sewer in Montague Gardens.
Electricity has been disrupted since Thursday, 2 May. The City was alerted to this by the contractor earlier today.
Working together with Eskom, the electrical subcontractor is on site, working overnight to resolve the electricity disruption as a priority. Four cable joints are required to restore power to the entire affected area. At present, two have been repaired and the contractor is progressing well on the third connection.
An initial assessment that the cause of the electricity outage was due to Eskom has been ruled out, as several underground cables were found damaged in the vicinity of the bulk sewer construction.
Water and Sanitation Management are reviewing oversight processes on site in order to make improvements going forward.
The City sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused and reassures affected residents that everything possible is being done to have electricity restored without delay.
